Animus Evo is a reversible protective body kit made from textured vinyl. It gives the car a stronger allroad look without drilling.

Animus Evo was created as an alternative to heavy plastic arch extensions and rough decorative add-on parts. Its purpose is not to replace body panels, but to carefully strengthen the existing shape of the Citroën C5 CrossTourer.

The thick textured vinyl works in two ways. First, it protects the paint in the most vulnerable areas: wheel arches, side sills and the lower parts of the bumpers. Second, it changes how the car is perceived, making it look more stable, more complete and more modern.

The result stays elegant because it does not fight against the original C5 design. The kit does not look like random tuning added later. It continues the existing body lines and strengthens the CrossTourer character.

Main design idea

Improving the visual proportions of the Citroën C5

The Citroën C5 X7 is a long car with a clean and elegant side profile. This length gives the car a noble shape, but it also creates a visual issue: the lower part of the body can look a little empty, especially from the side.

Animus Evo solves this with a dark protective belt. It connects the front and rear arches, continues through the side sills and visually brings the lower part of the car together.

At the same time, it was important not to make the car look heavy. If the protective belt were too high, it would damage the light and elegant character of the C5.

The reference point was the factory line under the chrome door mouldings. Several height options were tested on the real car: up to the middle of the moulding, along its upper edge, and several positions in between.

The final line was placed about four millimetres above the lower edge of the factory mouldings. It is visible enough to change the look of the car, but it does not make the side profile feel heavy.

Why the arches have this shape

A shape that continues the character of the body

The wheel arches of the Citroën C5 have a special visual tension. Their shape can be seen as an arc whose ends are fixed and trying to straighten. This gives the side of the car a collected and athletic look.

When developing Animus Evo, it was important not to lose this quality. The arches should not become heavy add-on parts that look like they are hanging on the body or resting heavily on the sills.

For this reason, the arch shape was not created by simply enlarging the factory wheel opening. It was designed as a separate line that keeps the visual tension of the original body.

Animus Evo does not try to turn the C5 into a utility SUV. It strengthens the character that the CrossTourer already has: a long silhouette, clean side surfaces, elegant body shape and the feeling of a confident road car.

Why this arch width was chosen

Balance between presence and elegance

Because Animus Evo is made from protective vinyl, it does not create physical volume like a plastic arch extension. The feeling of a wider arch comes from two things: the graphic width of the dark element and the original curved shape of the Citroën C5 wing.

The arch width was chosen so that the arches are visible and expressive, but not too heavy or artificially drawn.

If the protective part is narrower, the visual widening almost disappears. If it is wider, the graphic starts to fight with the shape of the wing and pushes the car toward a rougher, more utilitarian look.

The chosen version became a balance between real protection, the factory body shape and visual strength.

The shape and width were also checked with different wheel sizes. Even with the original 17-inch wheels, the kit keeps the correct proportions: the arches do not look too large and the wheels do not look too small for the body.

Front bumper

A more integrated protective shape

On the factory Citroën C5 CrossTourer, the lower elements of the front and rear bumpers can feel like separate add-on parts placed on standard bumpers. They add an allroad accent, but they do not always look like a fully integrated protective design.

With Animus Evo, I wanted to change that impression. The protective vinyl partly covers both the painted bumper surface and the lower diffuser area, connecting them into one more complete form. It creates a graphic “collar” that links the painted bumper with the lower protective element.

At the same time, the raised sections of the diffuser remain visible and still read as separate three-dimensional details.

As a result, the front bumper no longer looks like a standard bumper with an extra part attached. It looks more like one integrated protective structure.

Proportions and real protection

In its standard form, the lower part of the Citroën C5 rear bumper has a large painted surface. On a long estate car, this area can look visually empty and not very structured.

The rear Animus Evo element reduces the visual height of the painted area, makes the rear of the car look more complete and modern, and connects the bumper with the sills and wheel arches.

This part of the kit also has a practical purpose. The lower area of the rear bumper is especially vulnerable to scratches during loading, daily use and trailer hitch use. The thick protective vinyl covers the most vulnerable area and helps protect the paint.

So the rear part of Animus Evo solves two tasks at the same time:

Non-invasive and reversible installation

Improve the car without permanent changes

One of the main advantages of Animus Evo is its non-invasive installation. The kit does not require drilling, replacing factory parts, installing plastic arch extensions or changing the structure of the car.

The textured protective vinyl elements are installed on the existing body surfaces. When installed correctly, they follow the shape of the car closely, look like part of the design and still remain reversible.

This is especially important for Citroën C5 owners who want to protect the car and make it look more expressive, but do not want to turn it into a heavily modified project.

Animus Evo can be seen as a careful layer of protection and design. It adds character to the car without destroying its original architecture.

Developed by hand on a real car

Why this kit could not simply be drawn on a screen

Animus Evo was developed by hand directly on a real Citroën C5 X7 CrossTourer. This work required millimetre-level precision and constant checking on the actual body.

The front and rear wings of the C5 are not flat. They have a clear curved shape, so a line that looks correct on paper or on a computer screen can look completely different once it is placed on the real car.

It is relatively easy to draw a tense arc on a flat surface. It is much harder to make that arc keep the same visual tension on a real three-dimensional body panel.

At first, the most obvious solution was tested: simply following the factory wheel opening with a parallel line. But the result looked too mechanical and heavy. The line copied the geometry, but it did not support the character of the C5 body.

That is why the arches needed a real redesign, not just an enlarged factory contour.

During development, many scans, test templates, plotter-cut test pieces and trial installations were made. The contours were corrected many times after being tested on the car. Sometimes a change of only a few millimetres completely changed how the line looked on the curved wing.

This was not one final file created in a graphic program. It was a long process of finding the right shape through real fitting, corrections and many iterations.

Development stages:

1. creating the shape directly on the curved wing surface;
2. transferring the templates from the car into a flat format;
3. multiple scans and geometry checks;
4. vectorizing the contours;
5. multiple plotter-cut test pieces;
6. installing test elements on the car;
7. checking the result from different distances and angles;
8. many corrections to the contours;
9. preparing the final production files.

The final shape is the result of many manual checks and a careful search for the line that works not only on a drawing, but on the real Citroën C5 CrossTourer body.

Material

Thick textured protective vinyl

Animus Evo is made from thick textured protective vinyl. The material was chosen not only for its appearance, but also for its real function.

The material selection took time. During development, different options were tested, including glossy vinyl and standard matte vinyl. Both options turned out to be less suitable for this project.

Glossy vinyl looked too modern and too decorative. I also wanted to keep the project historically believable: when the Citroën C5 CrossTourer was designed and produced, cars like this did not usually use glossy black elements to express protection. Gloss could look foreign and too modern compared to the original design of the car.

Standard matte vinyl also did not give the right result. It could create a visual effect, but it did not feel like a real protective lower layer of the body.

For Animus Evo, textured protective material was chosen because it honestly shows the purpose of the kit. It is not fake protection and not just decoration. It is a real lower protective layer for the body, and it should look and feel like protection.

The material is highly resistant to damage. In normal use, it is very difficult to scratch compared with the painted body surface. This is why Animus Evo works not only as design graphics, but also as real protection for vulnerable parts of the car.

The texture also makes the elements visually closer to the factory CrossTourer protective parts and helps them fit naturally into the car’s design. At the same time, the material works as an additional protective layer for the paint.

It is especially useful in the lower areas of the car, where damage is more common: dirt, sand, road debris, everyday use, loading and trailer hitch use.

Important installation information

Professional installation is recommended

The Animus Evo kit is supplied as pre-cut textured protective vinyl elements, together with installation templates and instructions. However, for a high-quality result, the surface must be prepared correctly, the elements must be positioned precisely and the vinyl must be installed carefully.

Experience with vinyl installation is recommended. If you do not have this experience, it is better to contact a car wrapping specialist or a professional wrap studio.

This is especially important in areas with complex geometry: wheel arches, bumper transitions and curved body sections.
